source: The empty brain by Robert Epstein
Computer metaphor of the brain isn't very useful or helpful.
All the past metaphors were based on most recent discoveries or inventions of their time but usually very far from the brain. For example: hydraulic machines in 3rd century BCE or complex machines in 17th century.
Simple experiments with drawing a dollar bill from memory show how little detail we can recall, while anyone can recognise that bill when they see it.
